We have put together a list of some of the labor laws of New York State for you.

• The current minimum wage for covered employees in the State of New York is $7.15 per hour. There is a list of exceptions to this covered minimum wage law.
• If a covered employee is required to work overtime, they must be paid one and a half times their normal hourly rate.
• A one hour meal period or break time must be provided to employees who work more than six hours, an employer is not required to pay for that time.
• The number of hours a day that an employee can be asked to work is not restricted unless the employee is under the age of 18.
• Employers can require employees to wear uniform.
• Employers are not required to pay an employee for sick time or vacation time.
• Employers have the right to fire an employee at any time as New York State is an ‘employment at will’ state.
